Pixel Tribe's Goddess Order: An Interview with the Developers

This email interview features Ilsun (Art Director) and Terron J. (Contents Director) from Pixel Tribe, the developers behind the upcoming Kakao Games title, Goddess Order. They offer insights into the creation of this pixel RPG.

Q&A with Pixel Tribe

Droid Gamers: What inspires the pixel sprites for each character?

Ilsun: As Art Director, I oversee Goddess Order's visuals. Building on the success of Crusaders Quest, we aim for high-quality pixel art that evokes a console gaming feel, emphasizing narrative. Each element is meticulously pixel-crafted. Inspiration draws from countless games and stories, focusing on nuanced expression of form and movement through pixel arrangement rather than direct imitation. It's a process of continuous creative absorption from everyday life and collaborative synergy within the team. The initial characters, Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan, evolved through team discussions, shaping the overall art style. Further character designs are collaboratively developed with scenario writers and combat designers, ensuring a cohesive vision.

Droid Gamers: How do you approach world-building in a fantasy RPG?

Terron J.: World-building in Goddess Order originates from the core characters—Lisbeth, Violet, and Yan. Their inherent personalities, actions, and purposes drive the narrative. The process involves fleshing out these characters and their stories, focusing on their growth and heroic journeys. The game's emphasis on manual controls stems from the characters' strength and the immersive storytelling experience.

Droid Gamers: How are combat styles and animations designed?

Terron J.: Goddess Order's combat system features three characters using linked skills. Design involves defining unique roles for each character (e.g., damage dealer, support) and ensuring strategic synergy through linked skill timing. Adjustments are made to maintain combat balance and avoid cumbersome controls.

Ilsun: The art enhances these characteristics. Weapon choice, appearance, and movements reflect each character's personality and role. While 2D pixel art is used, we aim for three-dimensional movement in the animations. The team utilizes real-world weapon practice to inform the design of combat animations.

Terron J.: Technical optimization is crucial for smooth mobile gameplay, ensuring consistent performance across devices without compromising cutscenes or immersion.

Droid Gamers: What's next for Goddess Order?

Ilsun: Goddess Order tells the story of the Lisbeth Knights saving the world. Future updates will include expanded chapter scenarios, origin stories, additional activities (quests, treasure hunts), and challenging advanced content with refined controls.
