A purported remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, developed by Virtuos Studio using Unreal Engine 5, has been detailed by MP1st. The information, reportedly sourced from the anonymous portfolio of a former Virtuos developer, reveals a significant departure from a simple remaster.
The project, according to the portfolio, involves a complete reimagining of Oblivion. This encompasses overhauls to core mechanics, including stamina management, stealth, attack blocking (inspired by Soulslike titles to address the original's perceived shortcomings), archery, damage feedback, and the user interface. The damage system has been redesigned to incorporate visible hit reactions, while stamina is expected to be more intuitive. The UI and archery mechanics will also see modernizations.
MP1st suggests that the project's scope may have expanded from an initial plan for a remaster, as hinted at in leaked Microsoft documents, to a full-scale remake.
While sources confirmed to MP1st that the remake won't appear at the upcoming Developer_Direct, rumors suggest a possible release within the current year.
