Microsoft's multiplatform approach proves successful as PlayStation 5 joins Xbox Series X|S and PC in hosting its major releases.

Sony's PlayStation Blog confirmed Microsoft's strong performance by revealing April 2025's top-selling PlayStation Store games.

In North America, Microsoft titles dominated PS5's premium download charts:

  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
  • Minecraft
  • Forza Horizon 5

European markets mirrored this success with Forza Horizon 5 leading, followed by Oblivion Remastered and Minecraft.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, featured prominently in Xbox showcases and launching day-one on Game Pass, also performed well across regions.

Microsoft-owned studios contributed additional charting titles:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (Activision)
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Bethesda)

The sales data confirms strong titles perform well regardless of corporate origin. PlayStation owners particularly embraced Forza Horizon 5's April release, fulfilling pent-up demand for premium racing experiences.

Microsoft recently announced Gears of War: Reloaded for August release across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation - suggesting even franchise mainstays like Halo may follow this multiplatform trend.

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer established this strategic direction:

"No 'red lines' exist for our first-party titles regarding multiplatform availability."

Spencer cited business realities following Microsoft's $69 billion Activision Blizzard acquisition:

"We must deliver strong returns given Microsoft's substantial investment in our division."

While dedicated Xbox fans express concerns about platform exclusivity, Moore notes:

"Future growth requires appealing to emerging gaming generations beyond traditional console loyalists."
