Avengers: Doomsday Directors Post Fresh Instagram Tease As Trailer Speculation Mounts

The Russo Brothers, helmers behind Avengers: Endgame and the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, have shared a new Instagram teaser that Marvel enthusiasts are eagerly deciphering.

Shared on Instagram this morning, the image features an out-of-focus black-and-white silhouette that fans claim forms the shape of the letter "V." While this clue is quite minimal, it has already sparked a wide array of fan theories regarding its meaning.

Naturally, Doomsday stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom—whose full name is Victor Von Doom. Could the "V" simply reference his first initial? That seems almost too straightforward. Alternatively, could it represent the Roman numeral for five, given that Doomsday will be the fifth Avengers film? While plausible, this information isn't entirely new either.

"V as in 5 in Roman numerals? It’s five days until Fire & Ash—along with the rumored Doomsday trailer—is released, right? Perhaps this is a cryptic countdown," proposed Marvel fan luthestreewhisperer on Reddit.

As reported over the weekend, Doomsday will feature not just one but four trailers rolling out alongside Fire and Ash across four weeks to sustain hype (and boost ticket sales for repeat viewings of Avatar).

Given that at least four major superhero teams appear in the film, could each trailer spotlight a different group? The roster for Doomsday includes members from the original Avengers (such as Thor and Loki), the New Avengers (also known as the Thunderbolts), the Fantastic Four, and the classic X-Men.

This isn't the Russo Brothers' first cryptic Instagram teaser either. Previously, they posted an image resembling the letters "A V X," which many interpreted as hinting at Avengers Versus X-Men, likely referencing the film's opening conflict before the heroes realize Doctor Doom is the true villain uniting them.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters nearly a year from now, on December 18, 2026.
