Hype for a Bloodborne Remaster Fuelled by Instagram Posts
A Cult Classic Begging for a Modern Revival
Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed RPG released in 2015, continues to captivate fans who are eager to explore the gothic city of Yharnam on modern consoles. Although no official announcement has been made, recent Instagram posts from FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia have sparked renewed excitement about the possibility of a remaster.
On August 24, FromSoftware shared three images accompanied by the game’s title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." These included a picture of Djura, the veteran hunter from Old Yharnam, and two other images showing the player Hunter navigating through Yharnam and the haunting graveyards of Charnel Lane.
While these posts might simply be a nostalgic nod from FromSoftware, Bloodborne enthusiasts on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) are meticulously analyzing every detail, hoping to uncover hints of a remaster. The excitement was further fueled by a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17.
The Italian post, when translated, read: "Swipe to see some of Bloodborne’s most iconic locations! A journey through gothic atmospheres and dark mysteries. Which is your favorite?" The comments section was filled with fans expressing their desire to return to Yharnam, with some humorously suggesting that the most iconic location would be Bloodborne on PC or modern consoles.
Almost a Decade Later, the Hunt for Bloodborne on Modern Consoles Continues
Originally released in 2015 exclusively for the PS4, Bloodborne has garnered a dedicated following and is often hailed as one of the greatest video games ever created. Despite its acclaim, the game has not yet seen a sequel or a remaster.
Fans have looked to the 2020 remake of Demon’s Souls, another FromSoftware title, as a hopeful precedent for Bloodborne's revival. However, the lengthy wait for Demon’s Souls' remake, over a decade after its initial release, has tempered fans' expectations. As Bloodborne approaches its tenth anniversary, the anticipation for a remastered version continues to grow.
In a February interview with Eurogamer, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki added to the speculation by discussing the potential benefits of remastering the game for modern hardware. "I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value," Miyazaki stated. "However, I wouldn’t say that’s the be all and end all. I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important."
Despite Miyazaki's encouraging words, it's crucial to remember that FromSoftware does not hold the rights to Bloodborne. Sony owns the IP, which complicates any potential remaster plans. In an interview with IGN, Miyazaki clarified, "Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it."
Bloodborne's passionate community continues to hope for a remaster. Despite the game's critical success and strong sales, it remains exclusive to the PlayStation 4. Whether the current speculation about a remaster will materialize into an official announcement remains to be seen.
