Elden Ring Nightreign offers Nightfarers an abundance of powerful gear to aid their quest against the Nightlords. But just how powerful can it become? One player’s discovery of a rare weapon led to a viral experiment: they forged their blade into the ultimate Nightlord-slaying tool—only to watch its power collapse from its peak back to nothing.
This story revolves around Japanese YouTuber mintius (via Automaton Media), who obtained the Marais Executioner Sword—a weapon that boosts attack power with each enemy defeated, normally up to a fixed limit.
Although Nightreign’s encroaching storm usually imposes time constraints, preventing the sword's power from spiraling out of control, Mintius found the perfect sequence of enemy spawns to scale it beyond intended limits.
According to Automaton’s translation, Mintius hunted Wormface mobs for roughly an hour using the Marais Executioner Sword to test its limits. Their attack power capped at 9,999 after defeating 725 foes, with a final displayed weapon damage of 63,375. But after taking down the 727th enemy, Mintius suddenly could not deal any damage and was killed.

The prevailing theory is that Mintius triggered an "overflow" effect, causing damage output to plummet from its maximum to its minimum—similar to the legendary Civ Gandhi bug, where exceeding a numerical limit resets the value to the opposite extreme.
Mintius plans further tests with the Marais Executioner Sword to uncover its true limits and extraordinary damage potential. They’re particularly interested in performing a plunging attack on a Flame Chariot to see what kind of numbers it can produce—and the results are sure to be spectacular.
For most Elden Ring Nightreign players, consider this a warning: avoid over-farming with the Marais Executioner Sword once you acquire it. Spending an hour grinding might not be worth the risk. While it’s clearly a formidable weapon, pushing it to its absolute limits carries unexpected consequences.
