Eleven years after its initial release, Far Cry 4 now supports 60 frames per second (fps) on PlayStation 5 through a new performance update.

The enhancement was discovered by gael_74 and shared on the Far Cry 4 subreddit, where the game's update history confirms Version 1.08 added "60 FPS support for PS5."

This makes now an ideal opportunity for players to experience Far Cry 4 for the first time. The game delivers one of the franchise's most memorable villains in Pagan Min and drops players into Kyrat - a vibrant open world where the Himalayan setting isn't just scenic, but actively supports emergent gameplay through vertical exploration and dynamic encounters.

While criticized for weak character development, our Far Cry 4 review scored it a "great" 8.5/10, praising its excellent campaign structure and robust multiplayer offering that gives players exceptional freedom.

Far Cry 4 joins a growing list of enhanced PS4-era Ubisoft titles like Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Assassin's Creed Origins in receiving performance boosts. The update has sparked discussions in the community about potential 60fps upgrades for other franchise favorites including Far Cry Primal and Far Cry 3.

Some players expressed frustration with the timing, with one Reddit user commenting: "You are kidding right. I just platinumed the game, like, three days ago."

This update follows Ubisoft's recent restructuring, which saw the creation of a dedicated subsidiary for its Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six brands, backed by a €1.16 billion (≈$1.25 billion) investment from Tencent.

The move comes as Ubisoft rebounds from a challenging period marked by commercial failures, staff reductions, studio shutdowns, and project cancellations, with the successful launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows achieving over 3 million players.

In related Ubisoft news, the publisher recently added Steam Achievements to 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist twelve years after its original release.
