The story of "The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel: Northern War" begins in the Northumbria Autonomous Province, located in the northwest of the Zemuria continent. This narrative unfolds between the events of "The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II" and "The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III," chronicling "The Northern Campaign" from the perspective of Lavie, a young huntress serving in the TV anime's "Northern Jaegers."

The year is 1205 of the Seventh Calendar.

Lavie is a girl born and raised in the Northumbria Autonomous Province in the northwestern part of the Zemuria continent.

Driven to protect her homeland and prove herself different from her grandfather Vlad—a once-revered hero who ultimately betrayed his people—she enlists in the "Northern Jaegers," the continent's most renowned hunter corps, and dedicates herself to her missions.

One day, Lavie, whose relentless dedication to duty often leads to disciplinary issues, is forced to team up with fellow Jaegers Marty, Iselia, and Talion. They are assigned a dangerous spy mission into the Erebonian Empire.

Their objective is to gather intelligence on the "Hero of the Empire," a mysterious figure who poses a threat to Northumbria.
