Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed: An Apology from Grinding Gear Games
Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued an apology to Path of Exile (PoE) 1 players for the indefinite delay of the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024, then mid-February 2025, has been postponed due to unforeseen challenges with Path of Exile 2's launch.
GGG had previously committed to supporting PoE 1 alongside the release of PoE 2. However, the PoE 1 team was reassigned to assist with PoE 2's endgame development before its December 2024 launch. While GGG initially believed they could return to PoE 1's 3.26 update in time for its February target, this proved impossible.
In a video message, game director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation. PoE 2's launch, while ultimately successful, experienced unexpected crashes and balance issues requiring immediate attention. He stated that diverting resources from PoE 2 during its critical launch period wasn't justifiable.
The delay is expected to last until at least the release of PoE 2's 0.2.0 update, possibly extending a couple of weeks beyond. Rogers expressed sincere regret for the situation, admitting overconfidence in the studio's ability to manage two games concurrently. He emphasized that GGG is learning from this experience and developing strategies for future simultaneous game development. A concrete release date for PoE 1's 3.26 update remains unannounced.
PoE 2's December 6th, 2024 launch across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S was a resounding success, achieving remarkable player numbers and becoming one of Steam's most played games. To assist new players, GGG has provided class selection guides, builds for Mercenaries and Sorceresses, and resources covering Spirit acquisition, trading, and ascension.
