Edwards shared never-before-seen images and gameplay from the cancelled title, tentatively titled "The Invincible Iron Man," a nod to the character's comic book origins. The project followed the studio's release of X-Men 2: Wolverine's Revenge. His posts included the game's title card, Genepool Software's logo, screenshots, and Xbox gameplay footage showcasing the initial screen and a desert-based tutorial.
Activision's Cancellation Decision
Despite fan enthusiasm, Activision shelved "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. While Activision never publicly explained the cancellation, Edwards suggested several possibilities: delays in the Iron Man film, dissatisfaction with the game's progress, or another developer securing the rights.
The game's unique Tony Stark design, closely resembling the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book iteration of the early 2000s, also sparked discussion. This design predates Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU portrayal by almost five years. Edwards stated the design choice was the artist's decision. He promised further gameplay reveals, though these are yet to materialize.
