Lost Soul Aside: PSN Account Linking Removed for PC Release

Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market significantly, as PSN support isn't available in over 100 countries.

Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. Sony, the publisher for both PS5 and PC versions, initially mandated PSN account linking for its PC titles, a decision met with considerable player backlash.

The removal of this requirement for Lost Soul Aside was confirmed after its December 2024 gameplay trailer debut. While the game's Steam page initially listed PSN linking as a requirement, this was swiftly removed the following day, according to SteamDB update history.

A Shift in PlayStation's PC Strategy?

This marks only the second time Sony has reversed its PSN account linking policy for a PC game, the first being Helldivers 2. This suggests a potential softening of their stance on the issue. The decision likely aims to maximize Lost Soul Aside's player base and sales, especially considering the poor PC performance of other PlayStation titles following the implementation of mandatory PSN linking (e.g., God of War Ragnarok).

While the exact reasons remain undisclosed, the move benefits both players in unsupported regions and Sony's overall sales prospects. The absence of this requirement for Lost Soul Aside could signal a more flexible approach to future PlayStation PC releases.
