The next chapter in the Sonic the Hedgehog saga is speeding towards theaters! Paramount Pictures has officially slated Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for a March 19, 2027 release, as reported by Variety. While plot details remain under wraps, the announcement comes on the heels of Sonic the Hedgehog 3's impressive box office performance, raking in over $420 million globally and solidifying its place as the highest-grossing Sonic film to date. This success follows the considerable buzz (and initial controversy) surrounding the franchise's first installment.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the Super Mario Bros. Movie, further fueling the long-standing rivalry between Nintendo and Sega on the silver screen.

PlayThe live-action Sonic universe continues to expand, boasting three feature films and a Knuckles-centric spin-off series. The films follow Sonic (Ben Schwartz) as he battles his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), with each installment introducing beloved characters like Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba). Sonic 3 also marked the debut of Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).

While we won't reveal the next character joining the franchise here (check out our character guide for that!), be sure to read our review of Sonic 3 for a comprehensive look at the latest adventure.
