Housemarque's next title, Saros, a successor to the acclaimed 2022 roguelite Returnal, is set to launch in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. The game, unveiled during PlayStation's State of Play, stars Rahul Kohli and features a distinct Housemarque aesthetic.
Players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a treacherous, ever-changing planet shrouded in an eclipse and menaced by a formidable entity. The gameplay, described as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's signature style by creative director Gregory Louden, retains the third-person action of Returnal but introduces significant changes.
Unlike Returnal, Saros incorporates a system of permanent progression. While the game world dynamically alters upon player death, character upgrades to weapons and suits persist between playthroughs. This marks a key departure from the purely procedural nature of its predecessor.
The reveal trailer showcased intense action sequences, reminiscent of Housemarque's signature bullet-hell style, further emphasizing the "come back stronger" roguelite element. Housemarque promises a more extensive gameplay demonstration later in the year.
