The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, which takes place in the chilling landscapes of Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot, as reported by Insider Gaming. Originally known as Project Maverick, this game was first envisioned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, after an internal review, Ubisoft decided to make significant changes to the project. Despite receiving positive feedback from both employees and testers, the company's management chose to redirect most of the resources towards Project Blackbird, which is Far Cry 7. The final decision to abandon the multiplayer component came when the technical team was reassigned to other projects.

The responsibility for the rebooted project has been transferred to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its expertise in development support. Almost the entire original team working on Project Maverick has now been reassigned to focus on the next installment of the Far Cry series.

Insider Tom Henderson shared insights in mid-December 2024, revealing that Far Cry 7 aims to immerse players in an atmosphere filled with tension and desperation, where time becomes the primary adversary. The storyline revolves around the protagonist's quest to rescue their family, kidnapped by a mysterious conspiracy cult that conducts terrifying experiments with hallucinogens on animals and children. Players must race against time to save their loved ones within a strict 72-hour in-game deadline, which translates to 24 real-time hours. This time constraint adds a layer of intensity and urgency to the gameplay.

A unique feature of Far Cry 7 is the protagonist's wristwatch, which features an integrated timer. This constant reminder of the ticking clock will heighten the sense of urgency and pressure, compelling players to make swift and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 is poised to offer a gripping experience where every second is precious, and every decision can lead to significant outcomes.
