Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel. However, Hashino emphasized his commitment to seeing the current project through to its completion. He revealed that the game was originally conceived as the third flagship JRPG franchise for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become a major company initiative.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is actively working on their next project. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is also under consideration. The game itself has been a significant success for Atlus, achieving the company's best-ever concurrent player count on launch, exceeding 85,961 players. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
