A Bold Pricing Strategy in a Competitive Market

Ndemic Creations' November 28, 2024 release of After Inc. at a price point of just $2 is a gamble, according to developer James Vaughn in a recent Game File interview. This sequel to the hugely popular Plague Inc. sees humanity rebuilding after the Necroa Virus devastation. While the premise offers a brighter outlook than its predecessors, Vaughn acknowledges the risk of a premium price in a mobile market dominated by free-to-play (F2P) games laden with microtransactions. However, the success of Plague Inc. and Rebel Inc. provided the confidence to pursue this strategy. Vaughn stated, "The only reason we can even consider releasing a premium game is because we have our existing juggernauts...which will help players find our games - and also show that there is still an appetite for intelligent, sophisticated strategy games on mobile."

Ndemic Creations is committed to a one-time purchase model. The App Store listing explicitly states "no consumable microtransactions" and promises that "Expansion Packs are buy once, play forever," ensuring players receive complete content without additional costs.

Initial reception has been positive. After Inc. currently sits in the top 5 paid games on the App Store, alongside titles like Plague Inc. and Stardew Valley, and boasts a 4.77/5 rating on Google Play. A Steam early access version, After Inc. Revival, is slated for a 2025 release.

What Awaits in the Post-Apocalyptic UK?

After Inc. is a 4X grand strategy simulation where players rebuild civilization across the UK. Using resources salvaged from ruins, players establish settlements, construct essential buildings (farms, lumberyards, etc.), and manage citizen needs. Five leaders (ten in the Steam version), each with unique abilities, guide this rebuilding effort.

The challenge? Zombies. Players must combat the undead threat to secure resources and expand their settlements. As Vaughn assures players, "Nothing that can’t be solved with some nails stuck in a cricket bat!"
