Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom has treated fans to fresh gameplay footage of their upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play showcase, not only showcased impressive sword combat and formidable foes, but also confirmed the legendary Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.
The trailer highlights Musashi's unmatched swordsmanship, but also offers a glimpse into his mischievous and humorous personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the iconic Toshiro Mifune, renowned for his portrayal of Musashi in classic samurai films.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish entities to Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
