In a captivating interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how Mortal Kombat 1 will differentiate the iconic characters Omni-Man and Homelander. Boon's insights, shared with IGN, address fans' concerns about potential similarities in combat styles between these two powerhouse characters, reassuring the community that NetherRealm Studios is committed to creating distinct gameplay experiences.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
Boon emphasized the creative freedom the development team has enjoyed in crafting these characters. He explicitly stated their intention to avoid overlapping abilities, particularly those reminiscent of Superman, such as heat vision. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon explained, highlighting the team's goal to offer unique gameplay mechanics for each.
Drawing inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows, the developers are translating these into the game's Fatalities. Boon assured fans that the main attacks will significantly differentiate Homelander and Omni-Man, aiming to dispel any notions that the characters might feel too similar. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" he stated.
