The Voodoo Doll is often considered one of the safer Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia due to its favorable risk-reward ratio. Despite changes introduced by game updates, it remains a go-to option for many players.

The primary function of the Voodoo Doll is to provoke the ghost into performing evidence-related actions. You achieve this by inserting pins into the doll one at a time. This method is particularly useful when dealing with a ghost that's either stubborn or unusually quiet, as it can force the ghost to reveal crucial evidence such as EMF5 readings or Ultraviolet prints.

You can insert a total of 10 pins into the doll to trigger these actions, but it's crucial to be aware of the associated risks. Each pin you insert will decrease your sanity by 5%. Thus, inserting all 10 pins could drain up to 50% of your sanity, significantly increasing your vulnerability to ghost hunts.

The most significant risk comes from the pin located in the doll's heart. The placement of pins is random, and if you unfortunately hit the heart pin, it will instantly reduce your sanity by 10% and trigger a Cursed Hunt. During a Cursed Hunt, the ghost will spawn near your location and pursue you for an extended period, 20 seconds longer than a regular hunt.

While using the Voodoo Doll involves substantial risks, the potential rewards in terms of gathering evidence can be well worth it, provided you are well-prepared.

Cursed Possessions, often referred to as "Cursed Objects," are unique items in Phasmophobia that can appear randomly on any map, depending on the difficulty settings or if you're playing in Challenge Mode.

Unlike regular equipment, which is used to locate the ghost and gather evidence with minimal risk, Cursed Objects serve as shortcuts or cheats to manipulate the ghost's behavior, albeit at a higher risk to your character. The safety of using these objects varies, and it's up to you and your team to decide whether to engage with them. There's no penalty for choosing not to use them, and only one Cursed Possession will spawn per contract, unless you modify this in Custom settings.

The game features seven different types of Cursed Objects, including:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
