YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared a disheartening update in his video titled 'A Bad Month.' He disclosed that he had spent a year working on an animated show based on the survival horror game Soma, only for the project to fall apart unexpectedly, leaving him "quite upset."

Soma, developed by Frictional Games, the creators of the Amnesia series, was released in 2015 and received widespread critical acclaim. Jacksepticeye, a fan of the game, streamed it extensively upon its release and has often cited it as one of his top video games. The animated show was a passion project for him, fueled by his love for the game's compelling narrative.

In the video, Jacksepticeye explained that the project was progressing well until it abruptly disintegrated. He mentioned that an unnamed party suggested they wanted to take the project "in a different direction," a decision that left him deeply upset. He chose not to delve into specifics but expressed his frustration over the sudden change in plans.

The cancellation of the Soma animated show significantly disrupted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025. He had intended to dedicate much of his year to the project, planning to reduce his content uploads to focus on this creative endeavor. The collapse of the project left him questioning his priorities and next steps, turning what was supposed to be a fulfilling year into a challenging one.

Following the release of Soma, Frictional Games continued to develop the Amnesia series, releasing Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In a statement from July 2023, Frictional's creative director, Thomas Grip, mentioned the company's intention to shift focus away from horror games to explore other emotional themes in their future projects.
