Exclusive: Unveiling of Enigmatic Xbox Project on January 23

Xbox's upcoming Developer Direct will unveil four games, with the identity of the fourth remaining a secret. Hints suggest it's a new installment in a renowned Japanese franchise with a long history.

Xbox's annual Developer Direct, returning on January 23rd, will showcase three confirmed titles: Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The fourth game, however, is shrouded in mystery, sparking much speculation among fans. Initial guesses included Fable, The Outer Worlds 2, and Gears of War: E-Day.

Industry insider Jez Corden offered a clue, stating the mystery game is a "new entry in a legendary Japanese IP with decades of history," suggesting it's not from an Xbox first-party studio.

Several possibilities have emerged. While a new Final Fantasy title from Square Enix is tempting, given their PlayStation partnerships and recent releases, it seems unlikely. Other strong contenders include Capcom's Resident Evil, particularly Resident Evil 9, which has reportedly been in development for some time. Sega's Persona 6, rumored for a 2025 release, is another possibility, especially considering Xbox's past collaboration with Sega on Metaphor: ReFantazio. A Ninja Gaiden revival from Team Ninja is also plausible, given the franchise's strong association with Xbox during the original Xbox era.

Ultimately, all are just speculations. Viewers must tune in to the Xbox Developer Direct on Thursday, January 23rd, to uncover the mystery game and learn more about the other announced titles.
