Helpful Shortcuts

Bloodmoon Island is a mysterious area found north of Reaper's Coast. It is separated from the mainland by a sea blanketed with Deathfog, and the only connecting bridge has collapsed, making it appear unreachable by normal travel. Visiting Bloodmoon Island advances the main storyline and unlocks additional quests.

However, the game doesn't clearly explain how to cross the Deathfog and set foot on Bloodmoon Island, which may lead you to search all over Reaper's Coast for answers. Here are all the methods to access Bloodmoon Island and move the story forward in Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Spirit Vision Reveals the Path

It seems Bloodmoon Island was once linked to mainland Reaper's Coast by a bridge. Now in ruins, this bridge prevents direct travel to the island. The bridge is northeast of Cloisterwood, not far from the homes of Jahan and Witch Alice.

Near the bridge, you'll find the Driftwood Fields waypoint. Activate Spirit Vision there to see the broken sections of the bridge made visible. The crossing is broken into pieces, some of which are trapped, making the journey somewhat difficult. Still, if you have one of these items or abilities, getting across this spectral bridge shouldn’t be an issue:

  1. Gloves of Teleportation: These gloves can be obtained in the game's first act. They let any character use the Teleportation skill without learning it. While slow, you can carefully move each party member across by teleporting them one by one.
  2. Movement Skills: Abilities such as Phoenix Dive, Cloak and Dagger, and Tactical Retreat allow you to teleport or jump across gaps, which is very helpful on the broken bridge. The catch is that not every companion may have these skills, which is why the following option is a good backup.
  3. Teleporter Pyramids: There are four Teleporter Pyramids available in the game. These artifacts let you warp between pyramids. To cross the bridge, you'll need two pyramids. Place one in a companion’s inventory and have them use a movement skill to cross. Once they're on the other side, the rest of the group can teleport to them.
  4. Fast Travel: Another option is to send a companion with a movement skill across the bridge to find the Bloodmoon Island waypoint. After that, the whole party can use fast travel to reach the island directly.

Cross the Deathfog by Ferry

While the previous strategies can help most parties reach Bloodmoon Island, groups with Fane have another option. As an undead, Fane is immune to Deathfog, making him uniquely suited to cross it safely.

Northwest of Cloisterwood is a dock where an undead ferryman offers to carry your party over the Deathfog to Bloodmoon Island. Beware—this is a trap. Only Fane will survive the trip; all other characters will perish. If Fane rides the ferry alone, he will arrive on the island unharmed. He can then activate the waypoint, allowing the rest of the party to fast travel to him.

Using the Ferry Without Fane

If your party doesn't include Fane but you still want to try the ferry, you'll need to use Teleporter Pyramids. You must have at least two pyramids for this to work:

  1. Separate your party and place a Teleporter Pyramid in the inventory of the companion taking the ferry.
  2. Once they ride the ferry, they will die upon arrival at Bloodmoon Island's dock.
  3. Keep the rest of your group together and use the second pyramid to warp to the fallen companion.
  4. Cast a resurrection spell or scroll to bring the dead companion back to life.

Unless Fane is in your party, traveling by the bridge is the fastest and safest way to reach Bloodmoon Island.

It's best to avoid attacking the Undead Ferryman, as he can cast a Deathfog spell that kills anyone nearby. If you choose to fight him, save your game first. If defeated, he drops a Soothing Cold skillbook, a common belt, and 3,750XP.
