Bandai Namco's Blue Protocol, slated for a global release via Amazon Games, has been cancelled. The Japanese servers will also shut down in January 2025. This decision follows declining player numbers and the inability to meet player expectations.
Game Closure and Player Compensation
The Japanese servers will cease operation on January 18, 2025. Bandai Namco cited an inability to deliver a consistently satisfactory service as the reason for closure. The global release, a collaboration with Amazon Games, is also cancelled. The company expressed regret for disappointing players and its inability to continue development.
Until the shutdown, Bandai Namco will continue to support Blue Protocol with updates and new content. While Rose Orb purchases and refunds are no longer available, players will receive 5,000 Rose Orbs monthly (September 2024 – January 2025) plus 250 daily. Season Passes, starting with Season 9, will be free, and Chapter 7, the final update, launches December 18, 2024.
The game's initial Japanese launch in June 2023 saw over 200,000 concurrent players. However, server issues and declining player numbers quickly followed, leading to ongoing dissatisfaction. The game's underperformance, as previously reported in Bandai Namco's March 31, 2024 financial report, ultimately led to the decision to terminate service. Despite a promising start, Blue Protocol failed to meet financial projections and sustain its player base.
