The long-awaited sequel to the beloved adventure game, Ōkami, announced at last year's Game Awards, has finally received some clarification. While details remain scarce, IGN's recent interview with the project leads sheds some light on the highly anticipated title.

Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirmed the sequel is a direct continuation of the original game's storyline. Addressing speculation surrounding the trailer shown at the Game Awards, director Hideki Kamiya offered a cryptic "I wonder...", but Hirabayashi subsequently confirmed that the celestial deity Amaterasu will indeed return.

PlayThe team addressed the previous Ōkami title, Ōkamiden, a Nintendo DS game featuring Amaterasu's child, Chibiterasu. While acknowledging the game's existence and varied reception, Hirabayashi emphasized that the new sequel will directly follow the events of the original Ōkami, offering a distinct narrative path. He noted that Ōkamiden's storyline diverged from fan expectations in certain aspects.

The original Ōkami's ending provides a natural springboard for a sequel. Amaterasu and another character embark on a new journey, leaving ample opportunity for fresh challenges and narrative developments.

However, fans will have to exercise patience. The sequel is in its very early stages of development, with the early announcement driven by the team's excitement. According to Hirabayashi, substantial updates are not expected for some time.
