Cattle Country: A Wild West Farming Sim Coming to Steam
Cattle Country, a soon-to-be-released farming and life simulator, is generating significant buzz on Steam. Its wishlist page suggests a strong appeal for fans of Stardew Valley, offering a similar gameplay loop but with a distinct Wild West twist.
Castle Pixel, an independent developer with a history dating back to 2014 (known for titles like Rex Rocket and Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur Prince), is venturing into the farming sim genre for the first time with Cattle Country. The game is described on Steam as a "Cozy Cowboy Adventure Life Sim," promising a fresh take on familiar mechanics. Expect elements common to the genre, such as building a mountain home, community development, and forging friendships with townsfolk—a key component of the cozy life sim experience.
Cattle Country's Unique Western Flair
The game's most striking feature is its Old West setting. Promotional materials showcase charming visuals: managing cattle under a campfire's glow, a horse-drawn wagon traversing dusty trails. However, the Steam page also hints at more action-oriented gameplay, depicting scenes like a classic Wild West shootout and a bare-knuckle brawl in a makeshift arena. Mining is included, presented in a 2D style reminiscent of Terraria.
Familiar Farming Fun with a Western Twist
Players can anticipate the usual farming activities: planting and harvesting crops, deploying scarecrows, and logging to gather building materials. Festivals, a staple of the genre, will also feature, but with a unique Western spin, including events such as a Santa Claus visit and a traditional square dance.
While a release date remains unannounced, Cattle Country is available for wishlisting on Steam.
