Ubisoft Quietly Launches New NFT Game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.

Ubisoft's latest venture into the NFT gaming space, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., has been quietly released. This top-down multiplayer arcade shooter, as reported by Eurogamer on December 20th, requires players to purchase an NFT to participate.

Expanding the universe of the Netflix series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, the game incorporates elements from popular Ubisoft franchises like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed. Access is limited to 10,000 players, each requiring a unique Citizen ID Card, acting as a digital record of in-game achievements and rankings, evolving based on player performance.

Acquiring a Citizen ID Card necessitates owning a crypto wallet and purchasing an NFT Niji Warrior ID card from Ubisoft's designated claim page for $25.63. Players retain the option to relinquish their citizenship and resell their IDs, potentially increasing their value based on in-game success. A full launch is slated for Q1 2025, with early access granted to those who secured IDs early.

The game shares its setting with the Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, a spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC. Set in an alternate 1992 where the US is a megacorporation-controlled technocracy called Eden, the series follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, and his journey. While Ubisoft hasn't detailed the game's narrative, it's confirmed to take place within this universe, with players acting as Eden citizens, influencing the story through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community engagement.
