Stellar Blade is Coming to PC in 2025: A Closer Look
Initially a PlayStation exclusive, the action-packed sci-fi title Stellar Blade is making its way to PC in 2025! This announcement follows earlier speculation and confirms SHIFT UP's plans for platform expansion.
The PC Port's Potential PSN Requirement: A Point of Concern
SHIFT UP's confirmation of the 2025 PC release came after investor inquiries regarding platform expansion. The developer cited the booming PC gaming market and the success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong as key drivers for this decision. While a specific release date is yet to be announced, SHIFT UP plans to maintain the game's popularity until launch, with initiatives like a collaboration DLC with NieR:Automata (releasing November 20th), a much-requested Photo Mode (also November 20th), and ongoing marketing campaigns.
However, the PC release raises a potential issue. As a Sony-published title and with SHIFT UP's second-party status with Sony, a PSN account link for Steam might be required. This would unfortunately exclude players in regions without PSN access from playing the PC version. This practice, while justified by Sony as a security measure for live-service games, has drawn criticism for its application to single-player titles.
The Future of Stellar Blade on PC: PSN Requirement Uncertainty
Whether or not a PSN account will be mandatory for PC players remains unclear. Given SHIFT UP's IP ownership, it's possible a PSN link won't be required. However, such a requirement could significantly impact PC sales, potentially hindering SHIFT UP's goal of surpassing console sales.
