Starfield Creation Hints at PS5 Release with PlayStation Logo Appearance

Speculation about Starfield coming to PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend after fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo appeared alongside a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield. Although the Creation was subsequently removed, the sighting has led fans to believe that Bethesda's sci-fi game, which has so far been exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon be available on PS5.

The discovery has sparked discussions about whether Bethesda is planning a major content update or even a new expansion to coincide with Starfield's potential PS5 release. After the lukewarm reception to the Shattered Space expansion, there's been a noticeable lull in news about Starfield. However, Bethesda's parent company, Microsoft, is expected to host another summer showcase this year, which could be the perfect opportunity to unveil new developments for the game.

Bethesda has hinted at "exciting things" planned for Starfield in 2024, amid growing discontent from players over a lack of updates and communication. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Starfield and confirmed at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. In an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard mentioned the studio's goal to release an annual story expansion for "hopefully a very long time."

Starfield was launched in September 2023 as Bethesda's first new intellectual property in years and its first mainline single-player game since Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN's review of Starfield gave it a 7/10, noting that "Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist."

In January, Microsoft's gaming boss Phil Spencer did not rule out the possibility of Starfield being released on PS5. Reports from as early as March 2024 suggested that both Starfield and MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were being considered for PS5. While Indiana Jones was confirmed for PS5 with a spring 2025 release, Starfield has yet to receive an official confirmation for the platform, though Spencer's comments hinted at its potential.

Several Xbox games are already available on PS5, including Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation consoles and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Additionally, Forza Horizon 5 is slated for a PS5 release, and there are rumors that Halo might finally come to PlayStation after being exclusive to Xbox for decades.

Phil Spencer has explained that Xbox's multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to generate more revenue for Microsoft's gaming division, especially following the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Spencer emphasized the business aspect of their operations, stating, "We run a business," and highlighted the high expectations Microsoft has for its gaming division's performance.

Bethesda Game Studios, currently consisting of 450 employees across five teams working on Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile projects, and external development partnerships, is navigating a busy period as it continues to develop and support its expansive portfolio.
