Nintendo Halts Regular Splatoon 3 Updates

Splatoon 4 Anticipation Mounts as an Era Concludes

Nintendo has officially announced the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, the beloved shooter isn't completely abandoned. Holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges, and weapon balance adjustments as needed.

The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

This news follows the conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival on September 16th. Nintendo released a commemorative video showcasing past Splatfests and featuring Deep Cut's final performance. "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us," Nintendo shared, "it's been a blast!"

Splatoon 3's two-year run has ended, and with it, the anticipation for a sequel, Splatoon 4, is intensifying.

The Grand Festival itself sparked further speculation. Some players believe they discovered potential easter eggs or hints towards a new game setting within the event's locations. One fan commented on a post showing in-game images of a city-like area, suggesting, "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others, however, dismissed these as existing assets.

While no official announcements regarding Splatoon 4 have been made, rumors have circulated for months. Reports suggest Nintendo has begun development on a new Splatoon title for the Switch. The Grand Festival, as the final major Splatfest, strengthens this belief among fans.

Previous Splatoon Final Fests have influenced their respective sequels, leading some to predict a "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4 based on Splatoon 3's concluding event. Until an official announcement from Nintendo, however, this remains speculation.
