Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling yet for pirate multiplayer enthusiasts, thanks to a slew of exciting content updates. These include new game modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and the much-anticipated addition of land combat, a feature fans have been clamoring for since the game's launch.

During a special Year 2 showcase premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its roadmap for the upcoming year, packed with engaging content. The spotlight, however, shines brightest on Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, which will finally bring land combat to the game. Players will have the chance to step away from the sea and engage in swordfights and firearm duels as part of the Rogue Warlord additions. This update will allow players to explore sandy beaches and damp caves to recruit skilled Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of what's to come, but full details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat is the headline feature of Skull and Bones Year 2, Ubisoft has plenty more in store for 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos kicks off today, April 15, introducing an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, launching in summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships. The year wraps up with Season 4: Eye of the Beast this winter, which will introduce the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

PlayIf these updates sound appealing, you'll be excited to know that Skull and Bones will offer a free weekend from April 17 – 21. This is your chance to experience pirate PvP firsthand and take advantage of a special, yet-to-be-announced discount on the game.

Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a solid 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has kept official sales figures under wraps, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
