HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will feature previously cut content from the video game The Last of Us Part II, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will revive "pretty brutal" material, including elements from the game's "Lost Levels," partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster. These levels, including Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer a range of tones, from the relatively calm scenes of Ellie at a party and tracking a boar, to the intense horror of her encounters with monsters in the Seattle sewers.

The inclusion of this cut content promises a gripping viewing experience. Druckmann hinted at the inclusion of a "pretty prominent" character previously only mentioned in the game, echoing the Season 1 approach with Frank.
Season 2 introduces numerous new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. Catherine O'Hara's role remains a mystery.
The first episode of Season 2 premieres in April. However, HBO plans to adapt The Last of Us Part II over multiple seasons, unlike Season 1's adaptation of the first game. Showrunner Craig Mazin explained that Part II's extensive narrative necessitates this approach. While a Season 3 renewal is pending, Season 2 concludes with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
