Faithfully following the narrative of the original 2013 PlayStation 3 game and its Left Behind expansion, the first season masterfully expands upon the source material with additional storylines enriching the world. Showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann (a key creative figure in the game's development) penned the scripts.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey brilliantly portray Joel and Ellie, respectively, alongside appearances by Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, the original game's voice actors. The series faithfully recreates the core journey: Joel escorting Ellie across a post-apocalyptic America ravaged by a fungal pandemic, where Ellie holds the key to humanity's survival.
