How Much to Upgrade Switch Games to Switch 2 Edition?

Nintendo has quietly confirmed the cost of upgrading two more Switch games to their Switch 2 editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades come at a higher price than expected.

Upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch edition to the Switch 2 will cost $9.99. However, Nintendo Life and Eurogamer have noted that both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrades will cost more than double that amount. While exact U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available—potentially due to confusion with President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade packs at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Recent developments indicate that nearly all physical third-party Nintendo Switch 2 games revealed in Japan so far are Game-Key Cards, and it appears this trend extends to the West. In the US, Sega's Switch 2 games, such as Sonic X Shadow Generations and Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, are listed as Game-Key Cards.
