Pokémon Gold and Silver, originally released in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, revolutionized the Pokémon franchise with innovative features. These included a real-time clock affecting Pokémon appearances and events, and the introduction of 100 new Pokémon (Gen 2), such as Pichu, Cleffa, Hoothoot, Chikorita, Umbreon, Ho-Oh, and Lugia. The games' impact led to a 10th-anniversary remake, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, for the Nintendo DS in 2009.
