Pokemon Vending Machines: A Guide for Trainers

If you're a Pokémon fan with a social media presence, you've likely encountered discussions about Pokémon vending machines. As The Pokémon Company expands their US rollout, many questions arise. This guide provides the answers.

What are Pokémon Vending Machines?

Pokémon vending machines are automated kiosks dispensing Pokémon merchandise, similar to a soda machine—though perhaps less budget-friendly. While various types have existed, the current US focus is on TCG-centric models initially piloted in Washington in 2017. This trial's success led to wider grocery store chain deployment.

These machines boast vibrant colors and clear Pokémon branding, making them easily noticeable. They utilize touchscreens instead of traditional buttons, allowing browsing of TCG products, selection, and credit card checkout. The process features charming Pokémon animations, enhancing the buying experience. A digital receipt is emailed upon purchase, but returns are not accepted.

Primarily, US Pokémon vending machines stock Pokémon TCG products, including Elite Trainer Boxes, Booster Packs, and related items. Stock levels vary; while popular items may sell out quickly, a variety of options are usually available. Unlike some Pokémon Center machines in Washington State (which offer a broader range of merchandise and are being phased out), these machines generally do not sell plushies, apparel, or video games.

How to Find a Pokémon Vending Machine

The official Pokémon Center website maintains a list of active US Pokémon TCG vending machines. Currently, machines are located in several states including: Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin. The website allows you to filter by state to locate nearby machines within partner grocery stores such as Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Frys, Kroger, Pick ‘n Save, Safeway, Smith’s, and Tom Thumb. Distribution is currently concentrated in specific cities within each state. You can follow the Pokémon Center's location list for updates on new machine installations.
