The PlayStation Portal has maintained its retail price since launch, but you can now save on a pre-owned unit. Amazon Resale (formerly Amazon Warehouse) currently offers Used - Like New PS Portals for just $149.88 with free shipping - a significant 25% discount off the $199 MSRP. While Sony's warranty coverage may vary, these resale items still qualify for Amazon's standard 30-day return policy. Inventory is expected to move quickly at this price point.

Sony's innovative PS5 accessory essentially combines a DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen, transforming your console into a portable gaming system. The device streams PS5 games at up to 60fps while retaining all DualSense features: haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touch interface replacing the standard touchpad. While designed primarily for home streaming, the Portal can function remotely with an exceptionally stable, high-speed internet connection. Note that this remains fundamentally a PS5 remote play device rather than standalone hardware.
Recent updates have expanded the Portal's functionality beyond direct PS5 streaming. Since April's beta updates, users can now access PlayStation Plus Premium's cloud gaming library (120+ titles including Ghost of Tsushima and Spider-Man: Miles Morales) without requiring a physical PS5. However, this feature remains locked behind PlayStation Plus Premium's $18/month subscription.
While alternative remote play solutions exist (like the PS Remote Play app on mobile devices), the Portal offers superior integration of DualSense features and streamlined operation compared to third-party setups.
PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy
"The PlayStation Portal defied all my skeptical expectations to become a device I genuinely love. It delivers a markedly better experience than smartphone remote play solutions, with surprisingly reliable performance. I particularly appreciate the freedom to play my PS5 anywhere with decent WiFi - especially when my family commandeers the TV for Nintendo Switch gaming. Though fundamentally dependent on a PS5, the Portal currently stands as the best remote play solution for PlayStation, limited mainly by its lack of web browser login support for certain WiFi networks and no Bluetooth audio capability. Without these restrictions, it would be an essential accessory for every PS5 owner who enjoys handheld gaming or shares their television."
