Following the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, it's evident that the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue seamlessly. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's head of gaming, recently reiterated his commitment to the Switch platform, emphasizing its role in reaching gamers who are not part of the Xbox ecosystem.
In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer was questioned about potential projects for the Nintendo Switch 2. He affirmed that just as Xbox has supported the original Switch, it intends to extend the same level of support to the Switch 2.
"Nintendo has been an excellent partner. We see it as a unique opportunity to connect with players who aren't on PC or Xbox," Spencer explained. "It allows us to expand our community and engage with fans of our franchises, which is crucial for us to keep investing in our games."
"I’m a firm believer in what Nintendo brings to the gaming industry, and our continued support for them is vital," Spencer added. "Having their support for our franchises is a significant aspect of our future strategy."Spencer has consistently shown enthusiasm for the Nintendo Switch 2, praising Nintendo's innovative approach since the console's initial teaser. He has also confirmed that Xbox plans to expand its game availability across various platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo's consoles.
When asked by Variety if the Switch 2's reveal made him eager to unveil Xbox's next console plans, Spencer remained composed.
"No. I believe everyone in the industry should concentrate on their communities and the player base they're nurturing," he stated. "I'm inspired by the work of various creators and other platform holders. But I have confidence in our current strategies."
Spencer emphasized Xbox's commitment to delivering games across as many platforms as possible, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already been released on Nintendo platforms, and it will be intriguing to see what Xbox has in store for the Switch 2 upon its official launch.
