Nintendo Addresses Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Nintendo has issued an uncommon statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the images circulating online are not official, citing its absence from this year's CES. This brief comment, while seemingly obvious, is noteworthy for Nintendo's generally tight-lipped approach to pre-release information.

Leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. A notable instance involved accessory manufacturer Genki, which displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES. Images of this model quickly spread across social media.

Responding to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo officially labeled Genki's model as "not official." The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, thereby dismissing the displayed device as legitimate promotional material.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant visual difference from the original Switch is an additional button, resembling the capture button on the left Joy-Con, located below the right Joy-Con's home button and marked "C." Its function remains undisclosed.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to clarify the "C" button's purpose, offered additional details. He suggested that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will employ magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and function as mouse substitutes – claims previously echoed by other sources.

Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. However, a retail release isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
