During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly the entire Nintendo Switch catalog will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, select games are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, complete with unique features. These include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game comes with its own set of enhancements. The showcase kicked off with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which is getting a "Jamboree TV" upgrade. This includes innovative features like mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble feedback, and gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory.

Following this, we saw enhancements for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will feature improved resolution and frame rates, as well as HDR support. Additionally, these games will benefit from a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, offering voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations from Tears of the Kingdom with friends via QR codes.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is also getting an exclusive new story titled Star-Crossed World, along with upgraded graphics and frame rates.

New titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also receiving enhanced versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and boast 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and frame rates.

All of these upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Moreover, for those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby will be available for purchase.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo revealed that several third-party games will also receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will introduce exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.

The buzz about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games started last week when a webpage briefly mentioned these games in relation to the new Virtual Game Card system. It was noted that these enhanced versions cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
