Nintendo has officially responded to the buzz surrounding the alleged Nintendo Switch 2 3D-printed mockup showcased by the American accessory maker, Genki. Dive into the details to understand Nintendo's stance on these rumors.
Nintendo Clarifies: Mockup Is Unofficial
In a statement to CNET Japan and the Japanese newspaper Sankei, Nintendo firmly stated that "these images and videos are not official." They further clarified that the hardware Genki claimed to be the Nintendo Switch 2 was never provided by Nintendo, emphasizing that the mockup is entirely unofficial.
During the CES 2025 consumer electronics and IT trade fair, Genki garnered significant attention by showcasing what they claimed was a 3D-printed mockup of the much-anticipated next-generation console, the Nintendo Switch 2. Genki also reportedly told journalists and attendees at the event that they possessed a "real" Switch 2 and hinted at a release date.
Genki, known for its range of accessories for electronics and video game consoles, including controllers, portable SSDs, and chargers, has even dedicated a section on their website to Nintendo Switch 2 accessories. This page features a highly detailed animated mock-up of the console, which has contributed to the swirling rumors.
However, Nintendo has remained tight-lipped about the Switch 2, with no major announcements made yet. The only detail Nintendo has confirmed is that the Switch 2 will offer backwards compatibility with the original Switch and its library of games. As anticipation builds, Nintendo may soon feel compelled to make an official announcement to clarify the situation and manage expectations.
