NieR: Automata's Type-40 Sword: A Guide to Acquisition
Small swords in NieR: Automata are characterized by their swift attack speed and compact hitbox, making them versatile weapons for various enemy encounters. While weapon upgrades enhance their longevity, powerful discoverable weapons, such as the Type-40 sword, offer significant power boosts. However, obtaining the Type-40 sword requires completing the "Find a Present" side quest, the culmination of a questline involving Operator 6O. This guide details the steps involved.
Obtaining the Type-40 Sword
The Type-40 sword is awarded upon completion of the "Find a Present" side quest. To unlock this quest, two preceding quests must be finished:
-
Post-Chapter 5: After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, you'll receive a communication from Operator 6O initiating the "Investigating Communications" quest. Complete this immediately as it's easily missed.
-
Chapter 6 & 7 Progression: Complete Chapter 6 (Forest Castle events) and proceed to Chapter 7. After conversing with Pascal about A2, explore the city ruins to trigger Operator 6O's next communication, directing you to an access point to begin "Terminal Repairs."
-
Final Communication & "Find a Present": While returning to the Resistance Camp during Chapter 7, you'll receive a final message from Operator 6O concerning flowers. This message, accessible at an access point, initiates the "Find a Present" quest.
-
Reward: Completing "Find a Present" delivers the Type-40 Sword to your inbox.
Type-40 Sword Stats & Upgrades
At level 1, the Type-40 Sword boasts a 5-hit light attack combo and a 3-hit heavy attack combo. Upgrading to level 4 increases the light attack combo to 7 hits and enhances its effectiveness against stunned enemies. Titanium Alloy is required for these upgrades.
