MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5
Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, following the completion of its fifth season. The game's official channels revealed on January 31, 2025, that the servers will power down on May 30, 2025.
Season 5: A Final Curtain Call
Season 5, launching February 4, 2025, will be the game's last content update. This final season will introduce two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). Both characters, along with all other Season 5 content, will be unlockable through standard gameplay. Following the season's end, MultiVersus will be removed from all digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store).
The reasons behind the game's closure remain unannounced.
Offline Play: A Lasting Legacy
While online play will cease, MultiVersus will offer a local gameplay mode. Players can engage in solo battles against AI or team up with up to three friends. To access this offline mode, players must download the latest game version between February 4th and May 30th, 2025. Upon launching, the game will automatically generate a local save file linked to the player's account, preserving all earned and purchased content.
In-game purchases were halted on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium (premium currency) can be used until the game's closure.
A Brief History and Community Farewell
MultiVersus initially launched in public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates (new characters, rollback netcode, PvE mode, etc.), the game faced persistent challenges, including technical issues and declining player numbers. Reports indicated a 70% player drop for PS4 and PS5 in July 2024.
Despite these setbacks, the developers expressed gratitude for the community's support. MultiVersus will conclude its run with a roster of 35 playable characters, available for download until May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
