The Parabolic Microphone is categorized as Optional Equipment in *Phasmophobia*, which means it won't come equipped by default. To add this valuable tool to your ghost-hunting arsenal, you'll need to reach specific levels to unlock and purchase it through the game's Shop portal.
Like other equipment in *Phasmophobia*, the Parabolic Microphone comes in three tiers, each offering increased quality and reliability. To unlock the first tier, you must reach Level 7 and then head to the shop to include it in your equipment loadout, as shown above.
The second tier becomes available at Level 31 and requires a $3,000 upgrade. The third and final tier unlocks at Level 72, costing $5,000 to upgrade.
Once unlocked, you can choose any tier of the Parabolic Microphone for your loadout, and you're allowed to carry up to two, regardless of your team's size.
Keep in mind that if you decide to Prestige your character, which resets your level to 1, you'll need to unlock each tier of the Parabolic Microphone all over again, along with your other equipment.

Once you're on-site, pick up the Parabolic Microphone from the equipment wall in the truck to equip it, similar to any other item. Activate it using the appropriate button to turn it on or off. If you're using the tier 3 version, you'll have the added benefit of a radar screen that helps pinpoint the direction of the sounds.
On medium or large maps in *Phasmophobia*, the Parabolic Microphone becomes an invaluable tool for locating the ghost through sound cues, rather than relying solely on temperature gauges or EMF Readers. It's perfect for picking up any noise generated by the ghost, from objects being tossed around to doors being manipulated, or even the ghost's voice itself.
Additionally, using the Parabolic Microphone can help you complete Optional Objectives that require capturing the ghost's voice. It's also essential for identifying certain ghosts like the Deogen or Banshee, as they emit unique sounds that only this microphone can detect.
