Marvel Rivals developers have unveiled exciting plans to keep the game dynamic and engaging, including the introduction of new heroes on a monthly basis and adjustments to the duration of upcoming seasons. Dive into the details about these changes post-Season 2, along with information on new characters and skins.
Marvel Rivals Upcoming Changes
New Heroes Every Month
In an effort to maintain the freshness and excitement of Marvel Rivals since its launch, NetEase has announced a shift in their strategy. Starting from Season 3, the game will introduce a new hero each month, moving away from the original plan of releasing two heroes per season. This was revealed by Marvel Rivals' Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong during the Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4.
The developers are also planning to shorten each season from three months to two, aligning with the monthly hero releases. Guangguang elaborated, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month."
Guangguang acknowledged the pressure from social media feedback to keep the game thrilling, stating, "During this time, several discussions on social media have certainly added some pressure on us to keep the game as exciting as it has been since December." The team is also exploring the addition of new game modes to further enhance the player experience, which could potentially be introduced in the future. This accelerated schedule might see up to 12 new heroes added to Marvel Rivals annually.
Balancing these new heroes presents a significant challenge, but Guangguang assured in a March 14 interview with PC Gamer that the team is prepared. He highlighted the importance of utilizing key metric data such as pick rates, win rates, and ability stats across all game modes to guide their balancing efforts.
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
Season 2, dubbed Hellfire Gala, introduces players to a new narrative where Marvel Heroes are invited by the upcoming hero Emma Frost to explore the Mutant haven of the Living Island Krakoa. Emma Frost, an X-Men villain known for her telepathic abilities and the power to turn things into diamonds, will serve as a Vanguard in the game.
The Hellfire Gala event is inspired by Marvel’s Hellfire Club, a group of influential elites who manipulate global events. The season trailer showcased new skins for characters like Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, all dressed in elegant formal wear.
Midway through Season 2, Season 2.5 will introduce the iconic villain Ultron. The trailer hints at a dramatic interruption of the Hellfire Gala by Ultron's robots, signaling the beginning of the Age of Ultron. Further details about Ultron's role are yet to be disclosed.
Thor’s Lord of Asgard and Hawkeye’s Ronin Skins Available Now!
Marvel Rivals announced on Twitter (X) on April 4 the availability of new skins for Thor and Hawkeye. Thor's Lord of Asgard skin draws inspiration from his comic book revival by Odin, while Hawkeye's Ronin skin reflects his time as a vigilante samurai.
