Tidepool Games has released an exciting new mobile game for Android enthusiasts, titled MageTrain. If you've enjoyed Nimble Quest, MageTrain will feel familiar, as it heavily draws inspiration from that classic. This game blends the classic Snake gameplay with elements of auto-battlers and roguelikes, creating a unique, fast-paced pixel art experience.
What’s MageTrain Like?
In MageTrain, you control a dynamic line of heroes that follows you like a snake through various arenas. Each hero automatically engages in combat as you navigate, demanding your strategic input on positioning. Managing the order of your heroes is crucial, as their abilities vary based on their position within the train. Whether leading the charge or supporting from the back, each hero plays a vital role in your success.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine heroes, including one who uniquely throws birds. Their skills adapt based on their position, adding depth to your tactical decisions. The game challenges you with eight different dungeons, 28 types of enemies, and the opportunity to unlock 30 skills to enhance your team. Along your journey, you'll collect gold and power-ups to bolster your efforts.
The roguelike structure ensures that no two runs are the same. You'll navigate branching paths, choose upgrades, and strive to survive as long as possible. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, MageTrain offers no fixed levels and no option to save your progress mid-game. Every mistake, whether crashing into an obstacle or being overwhelmed by foes, resets your journey, urging you to start anew.

It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The thrill of MageTrain lies in the constant improvement you experience with each playthrough. Even when you don't succeed, you learn more about when to adopt a defensive strategy, when to attack aggressively, and when to simply hold on for another half-minute. This continuous learning curve keeps the game engaging and rewarding.
MageTrain is now available on Android and it's free to play. Dive into this action-packed adventure by visiting the Google Play Store.
