A Knight of Decay: Xbox Brings Avowed’s Plague to London

A colossal statue of a decaying knight, his armor ravaged by time and adorned with unsettling, realistic mushrooms, has materialized in London. This chilling display, crafted by Xbox, serves as a potent artistic statement and a stark warning, plunging onlookers into the bleak reality of Avowed's Dreamscourge plague. Accompanying posters advertising the Xbox Series X|S game further immerse the urban setting, transforming a typical street into a gateway to Avowed's grim universe.

To showcase the creation of this ominous installation, Xbox has released an official behind-the-scenes video on YouTube, offering fans an intimate look at the promotional endeavor.

The game itself has garnered significant acclaim from Steam users, boasting an 81% positive recommendation rate among Deluxe Edition players prior to launch. This overwhelmingly positive pre-release reception sets a high benchmark as the Standard Edition launches today.

Industry veteran Jason Schreier shared his enthusiastic appraisal of Avowed, highlighting its exceptional world design, compelling narrative, and engaging combat system – but particularly praising its exploration:

"Avowed has completely captivated me. Obsidian's storytelling and combat are predictably superb, but the world design is truly exceptional. Every path leads somewhere, every rooftop is accessible, and hidden details abound. Even after 40 hours, I'm still engrossed."

Schreier, however, also acknowledged a disparity between critical reception and player response, drawing parallels to Fallout: New Vegas:

"Some reviews have taken me by surprise. It mirrors the Fallout: New Vegas experience – critics were divided, yet players elevated it to legendary status. Avowed may follow a similar path."

Fallout: New Vegas, despite an initial Metacritic score of 83, eventually achieved undisputed classic status. Could Avowed be destined for a comparable journey towards RPG immortality?
