Keanu Reeves has provided an exciting update on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, Constantine. Known for his role as the occult detective and exorcist John Constantine from DC Comics, Reeves has confirmed that a pitch for Constantine 2 has been approved by DC Studios, and they are now moving forward to write the script.
Reeves shared this news with Inverse, stating, "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay.’ So, we're going to try and write a script." This development marks a significant step forward after years of fan anticipation and Reeves' own expressed interest in reprising the role.
However, it's important to note that while the pitch has been accepted, there is no guarantee that Constantine 2 will be greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The project is not currently listed as part of the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran have mentioned it as a confirmed project.
Reeves also teased that if Constantine 2 does come to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. He humorously added, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
Adding to the excitement, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed to ComicBook that a script for Constantine 2 is already in his inbox. However, he admitted to being hesitant to read it due to his high hopes for the project, saying, "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough. I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
This update on Constantine 2 has reignited fans' hopes for a sequel that continues the dark and thrilling adventures of John Constantine, portrayed by the ever-popular Keanu Reeves.
