It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda title, and the Nintendo Switch 2 continues this tradition with a surprising twist. Revealed during today's Nintendo Direct, Koei Tecmo is developing a new Hyrule Warriors game titled "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment," set as a prequel to "Tears of the Kingdom." This exciting new addition is slated for release this winter.

"Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment" introduces a fresh narrative within the Hyrule Warriors series, focusing on characters from the ancient history of "Tears of the Kingdom." Key figures include Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders. The game delves into Zelda's journey after she travels back in time, where she collaborates with the last Zonai members, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to battle against Ganondorf and his forces.

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, including Mineru piloting her mech, Zelda's magical prowess, Rauru wielding a sword-spear, and brief appearances of other Sacred Stone wielders.

This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original "Hyrule Warriors" and "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity," which served as a prequel to "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." "Age of Calamity" was particularly notable for its innovative storytelling approach, which diverged slightly from the main storyline of "Breath of the Wild." We awarded "Age of Calamity" a 9/10, praising it as "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
