Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike with a Twist

The upcoming indie roguelike, Rogue Loops, is generating buzz with its striking resemblance to Hades, both visually and in its core gameplay loop. However, Rogue Loops introduces a unique mechanic that sets it apart. While a release date hasn't been officially announced (currently slated for Q1 2025), a free demo on Steam allows players to experience the game's early stages.

The game features a repeatedly traversed dungeon with randomized loot and ability upgrades, a common element within the popular roguelike genre. This genre encompasses a wide spectrum of games, from action-packed titles like Returnal to more traditional dungeon crawlers such as Hades and its currently-in-development sequel.

Rogue Loops draws significant inspiration from Hades' gameplay, utilizing a top-down perspective and a similar dungeon structure. But the key difference lies in its ability upgrade system. Each upgrade comes with a distinct drawback, significantly impacting gameplay.

This "curse" system, reminiscent of Hades' Chaos Gates but with more pronounced and varied effects, can impact the entire playthrough. The strategic management of these curses will be crucial to success.

The narrative centers around a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players must navigate five distinct dungeon floors, each populated with unique enemies and bosses. As with most roguelikes, subsequent runs unlock procedurally generated upgrades, enabling players to craft diverse builds using both beneficial and detrimental boons.

While a precise release date remains elusive, the Steam page indicates a Q1 2025 launch. In the meantime, a free demo offering access to the first floor is available. Players eager for more roguelike action can explore alternatives like Dead Cells or Hades 2 until Rogue Loops' official release.
