In Avowed, you'll face a crucial decision: free the imprisoned Ilora or leave her fate sealed. This choice significantly impacts your journey, particularly in Fort Northreach and a later side quest. This guide explores the consequences of each decision.

Should You Free Ilora?

While Avowed encourages player agency, freeing Ilora is strongly recommended. This path simplifies Fort Northreach and unlocks a smoother experience during the "Escape Plan" side quest.

Freeing Ilora: The Benefits

Freeing Ilora provides invaluable assistance in overcoming Fort Northreach's challenges, including the boss fight against Steadman Ralke. Early in the game, your resources are limited, making Ilora's aid crucial. Furthermore, rescuing her paves the way for a significantly easier "Escape Plan" side quest later.

How to Free Ilora

Ilora reveals the key to her cell is located in the Warden's Room. Access this room by navigating to the hallway's end, climbing crates, jumping to the adjacent platform, and entering the upper passage. Break through the boards on your right to reach the Warden's Room; the key is near the door. Remember to use this key to unlock the adjacent cell and obtain the Deerskin Gloves, regardless of your decision regarding Ilora.

Leaving Ilora: The Consequences

Choosing not to free Ilora drastically increases the difficulty of Fort Northreach. The "Escape Plan" side quest also becomes considerably harder. Ironically, Ilora won't remain imprisoned; you'll later face her in combat, further complicating your escape. However, this path does allow you to loot her corpse after defeating her.

Ultimately, freeing Ilora offers a more rewarding and less challenging gameplay experience.
